1. Product Introduction
1.1 Indicator description
The Switch has two indicators.
Large indicator, the RGB paddle light. Shows whether the light the Switch controls is on or off.
• Blue: the light is on
• Red: the light is off
Small indicator, the corner LED. Shows what the Switch is doing on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. See 1.2.
• The lighting fixture controlled by the switch must not exceed 800 watts.
• The switch is designed only for use with permanently installed lighting fixtures.
1.2 Setup and connection indicator
These six patterns show what the device is doing while you connect it, and afterwards. Each strip below covers three seconds.
Reading the indicator
| WHAT YOU SEE | WHAT IT MEANS | WHAT TO DO |
| Blue, blinking once a second | Waiting for a Bluetooth connection. Normal right after power-on, and on a device that has not been set up yet. | Connect from the MiOS App. |
| Blue, blinking fast | The app is connected and setting the device up. | Nothing. |
| Blue mixed with red | The app is connected and needs you to confirm you are at the device. | Press the main paddle three times within 10 seconds. |
| Red, steady | The confirmation was not completed in time, so the setup session was refused. | Connect again and repeat the three presses. |
| Blue, steady | Normal operation. The device is on your Wi-Fi network. | Nothing. |
| Blue, a brief flash once a second | Wi-Fi has dropped and the device is reconnecting. | Check your router and the signal strength where the device is installed. |
1.3 Your device updates itself the first time it connects
The first time the device reaches your Wi-Fi network, it downloads and installs a software update. The MiOS App shows the update running and tells you when it has finished.
• There is no separate indicator pattern for updating. Follow the update in the app.
• Until the update has finished, the indicator may not behave as described in 1.1 and 1.2.
• Wait for the app to confirm that the update is complete before you use the device.
• Keep the power on at the breaker while the update runs.
1.4 Button functions
• Press and release the main paddle to turn the switch on or off.
• Double-click the main paddle to turn the RGB light on or off.
1.5 Restoring factory state
Use the MiOS App to factory reset the device. You can also remove the device from the devices list in the MiOS App. See the Troubleshooting section below.
2. Installation
2.1 Tools you need
• Screwdriver
• Pliers
• Electrical tester
2.2 Removing the faceplate
Insert a flathead screwdriver in the recessed hole on the bottom of the plate and turn the screwdriver counterclockwise.
2.3 Combined 2-gang and 3-gang switches
• The side angle of the sheet metal can be disassembled.
• 2-gang or 3-gang switches can be seamlessly connected, which fully conforms to the size of the home switch box.
Before you begin
• The device can replace existing single-pole light switches, NOT 3-way.
• Make sure your home has a neutral wire in the wall where you want to install it. If your house was built or remodelled before the mid-1980s you may not have a neutral. Try another location or call an electrician for help.
• Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the spot where you will install the device. It only works on the 2.4 GHz band.
• Keep your mobile device close until setup is complete.
Step 1: Turn the power OFF
WARNING! Risk of electric shock. Incorrect installation could be dangerous or illegal. Multiple breakers or fuses may need to be turned OFF for safe installation. Please call a professional electrician if you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with electrical work.
Shut OFF the power to the light switch you are replacing at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
Step 2: Find the neutral wires
Remove the cover plate from the existing switch. Use a voltage tester to test BOTH sides of the switch. You may need to turn OFF more than one circuit breaker or fuse.
Unscrew the existing switch and gently pull it out of the wall. Look for the neutral wires, usually white. You need these to install the device. Continue ONLY if you have the neutral wires.
Note: you may have a different colour and number of neutral wires than shown.
Use a voltage tester to check that there is no power in the neutral wires from neighbouring circuits. If necessary, shut OFF additional circuits until no voltage is found. Then unscrew the wire nut connecting the neutral wires.
Step 3: Find the ground wires
Look for the ground wires, usually green or solid copper, and unscrew the wire nut connecting them.
Note: your existing wires may be in different locations than shown. Never label wires while the power is turned on.
Step 4: Find and label the line and load wires
Step 5: Connect the wires
IMPORTANT: make sure the power is turned OFF before you proceed. Your existing wires may have different colours than those shown.
Step 6: Install into the wall
• Tug on each wire nut to make sure they are secure on the wires.
• Insert the device into the box.
• Screw it into the wall and snap on the cover plate. Be careful not to over-tighten the screws.
Step 7: Turn ON the power
Turn ON the power at the fuse panel or circuit breaker panel.
