Introduction

Starting with firmware version 2.0.78.3067.3 [199] released in May 2025, the behavior of the reset button was updated.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to reboot, perform a soft reset, and execute a factory reset on the Ezlo Secure and E550 controllers. Additionally, it explains when each action should be used and what behavior to expect.

Understanding Reset Actions

1. Reboot (Power Cycle)

Description: A simple power cycle that restarts the controller without altering any settings.

When to use:

  • The controller is unresponsive.
  • Minor connectivity or performance issues.

Steps to Perform a Reboot:

  1. Press and hold the front speaker button for 10 to 15 seconds.
  2. The controller will blink blue twice per second, indicating that a reboot has been initiated.
  3. Release the button.
  4. The controller will restart.
  5. A broadcast signal is sent indicating the reboot was performed.

Important Notes:

  • If the button is released before 10 seconds, the reboot is canceled.

2. Soft Reset

Description: Restores the controller to default settings, except for WiFi settings leaving the hub connected to the WiFi network. Removes paired devices.

When to use:

  • If troubleshooting controller issues without erasing WiFi settings.
  • If you want to remove all paired devices while keeping network configurations.

Steps to Perform a Soft Reset:

  1. Press and hold the front speaker button and the reset button on the back simultaneously for 5-10 seconds.
  2. The controller will blink white twice per second, indicating a soft reset is about to be performed.
  3. Release both buttons after 5 seconds.
  4. A soft reset is initiated.
  5. The controller sends a broadcast signal indicating the reset has been performed.
  6. In order to cancel a soft reset in progress, keep holding the reset button on the back and the front speaker button until +20 seconds have elapsed

3. Factory Reset

Description: Restores the controller to factory settings, erasing all configurations including WiFi settings and removing all paired devices.

When to use:

  • If performing a complete system reset before transferring ownership.
  • If encountering persistent issues that a soft reset does not resolve.

Steps to Perform a Factory Reset:

  1. Press and hold the front speaker button and the reset button on the back simultaneously for 10-20 seconds.
  2. The controller will blink white once per second, indicating a factory reset is about to be performed.
  3. Release both buttons after 10 seconds.
  4. A factory reset is initiated.
  5. The controller sends a broadcast signal indicating the reset has been performed.

Important Notes:

  • This action removes all settings, WiFi configurations, and paired devices.

4. Reset Cancellation

Description: If the reset buttons are held for longer than 20 seconds, both the soft and factory reset processes are canceled.

When to use:

  • If a reset action was triggered by mistake.

Steps to Cancel a Reset:

  1. Press and hold the front speaker button and reset button on the back for more than 20 seconds.
  2. Release both buttons after 20 seconds.
  3. The controller stops blinking and does not reset.
  4. If the buttons are held beyond 20 seconds, the controller stops listening for further button input.
